Witches in Black and White
“So, what IS a ‘hoaxer’? In terms of ‘mimicking a non-human pattern’ it’s a misnomer, because in order to fake, there has to be a genuine original to copy from. In cerealogy, that would infer one specimen which can be 100% proved not to have been made by people. There’s not a single case that fulfills this criteria.
I think just the exertion of up to twenty people grafting away, all focused on a ‘talisman’, will engrave Magick into it. If that’s true, then that’s what makes a circle ‘real’. And that’s why we have an obligation to be circumspect, and to act with propriety and not take the piss. It’s because it’s not the magic that’s ‘black’ or ‘white’. It’s the intent behind it. It’s the wielder of the wand that deigns whether magic - in our case, these sigils - is benign, “white”, or pernicious, “black”. Man-made patterns aren’t hoaxes.
I think of it like a hatchet. You can chop wood with it or you can be Lizzie Borden. My litmus test is: “If we’d have made this in the Middle Ages would we have been burnt at the stake as heretics?”

Just stumbled on you. Never thought I’d find someone here providing real insights on crop circles. I’m no expert, not even close, but my next novel, set during the 1980s, has an important crop circle sub-plot. (My forthcoming one has plenty of 1950s flying saucer lore in it.) Anyway, keep up the good work. It’s a fascinating subject. Consider yourself subbed!
